Yes, it’s true: the Vice President is having a problem with his pants and Jon Stewart (“The Daily Show) is worried about him.
Yesterday, in addition to the sound (and hilarious) spanking given pro-war stooge Stephen F. Hayes, author of the book, ?The Connection : How al Qaeda’s Collaboration with Saddam Hussein Has Endangered America,? Jon showed some truly heartfelt concern for the Vice President’s pants.
Stewart played a segment of a CNBC interview in which Cheney says, of the alleged meeting in Prague between 9/11 hijacker Mohammed Atta and an Iraqi intelligence agent, that “we have never been able to confirm or to knock it down.” This is slightly less emphatically stated than his earlier quote: “There clearly was a relationship. It’s been testified to. The evidence is overwhelming.”
This nonsensical “confirm or to knock it down” comment is meant, I suppose, to prove that saying the meeting did happen is not actually a lie. The interviewer responded that Cheney had said in the past that…well, what the hell…here’s a quick transcript:
Transcript, CNBC?s ?Capital Report,? June 17, 2004
Gloria Borger: ?Well, let?s get to Mohammed Atta for a minute, because you mentioned him as well. You have said in the past that it was quote, ?pretty well confirmed.?
Vice President Cheney: No, I never said that.
BORGER: OK.
Vice Pres. CHENEY: Never said that.
BORGER: I think that is…
Vice Pres. CHENEY: Absolutely not.
Transcript, NBC?s ?Meet the Press,? December 9, 2001.
Vice-President Cheney: ?It?s been pretty well confirmed that he did go to Prague and he did meet with a senior official of the Iraqi intelligence service in Czechoslovakia last April.?
As Jon Stewart said: ?Mr. Cheney, your pants are on fire.?
